In the dark we don’t have to say I love you.

The AI race seeks to replicate and optimize our own cognition. Shadow scrapers are scavenging every corner of the internet and battles are being waged for GPU’s - all in the name of efficiency. Meanwhile tactile modalities of art making efficiently elicit what is not in the models: conscious, subconscious thinking and belief structures, emotions, and lineages of the hands that form the work. The embodied polyvalent, multimodal, ambiguous states rely on intuition, peripheral and the sixth sense, the flow state.

Painting stands on the elusive representations of identity and capacity, fear of loss, the certainty of change, and the persistence of the human spirit culminating in an uncomfortable, but more enlightened, state of grace. Tight and opaque brushstrokes juxtaposed with transparent spills and bleeding edges underscore a constant battle between control and uncertainty and the porous nature of the skin.

We are reminded of all that slips between the lines of code that we interact with in the technology we use… restraint and unbearable honesty, abjection and redemption, both suffer an uneasy truce in the fluid, juicy and gestural paint applications.
